How to Setup your Privacy Hero Router
Thank you for choosing Privacy Hero as your VPN solution. After a few quick steps, you'll be able to take full advantage of what our Smart VPN router has to offer.
Physical Connection
Before creating your Privacy Hero account, we will need to plug your Privacy Hero router to power and connect it to your existing ISP router/modem.
Take your Privacy Hero router out of the box and grab the included Ethernet cable.
- Connect one end of the cable to your Privacy Hero router's WAN port - the blue port which has Internet marked below it.
- Connect the other end of the cable to one your ISP router's/modem's LAN ports - those should usually be colored yellow or orange.

Account Creation and Router Registration
Step 1:
On your phone or computer, visit the account creation page and enter the email address you would like to use for your account.
A confirmation email will be sent to the address used - please use the link in the email to confirm the account creation and login continue.
Step 2:
On the next step, set the password you would like to use for your Privacy Hero account. Type in the password again to confirm and continue.
Step 3:
On the next step, simply select "I'm connected" since we already made the physical connection beforehand.
Step 4:
We will now attempt to automatically find your Privacy Hero router on your network. If it is not found automatically, you will be asked to enter the activation code printed on the bottom of your Privacy Hero router. If your code does not work please take a look at our quick troubleshooting guide.
When the router is found, you will see a confirmation message on screen and the option to continue.
Step 5:
Your Privacy Hero will now need to update it's firmware. Just follow the prompts on screen after the update is complete.
Step 6:
Now it's time to set your Privacy Hero Wi-Fi. Pick a name and password for the wireless network.
Here are 2 tips for best results:
- You can set the network name to the same name and password as your existing network to avoid needing to re-connect every device.
It is very important to disable your ISP router's Wi-Fi signal if you decide to go with this option. This can usually be done on your ISP router's control panel.
- You can choose a new network name (like PrivacyHero) and move all of your devices to the new network manually.
